Well, 3-1 ain't too bad for opening night of the playoffs.
Batavia, Kaneland and Marmion move on.
Geneva goes home.
But worse than any team losing a football game is a serious injury, so most importantly, best wishes for Kaneland's Brandon Bishop, who was taken off the field during the Hampshire win.
Football-wise, you've got to figure things will get a lot tougher for the Knights next week, where JCA is pretty much a lock to be waiting. That's a semifinal or even 5A championship caliber game taking place in the second round.
No surprise, Batavia beat up on the Barbs, but still has to be somewhat of a relief for Batavia to get that first one out of the way with what happened last year.
Marmion laid the wood on Fenton, and gets a very winnable second round game against a Prairie Ridge team that was 5-4 entering the playoffs and has injury concerns at quarterback.
Too bad about the Vikings. They were a fun team with some major offensive firepower, but you've got to play well AND play clean to beat a team like St. Patrick, and costly turnovers aren't going to cut it. Still a very solid season for the Vikings, and lots of talent returning.
On Saturday, instead of four local home games like it was on Friday, it'll be four road games, as St. Charles East, ACC, Aurora Christian and St. Francis all must be road warriors.
Considering that, another 3-1 day for the locals on Saturday would be awful impressive.
