Sound Off: Don't be a pig

The following is what our readers sounded off about this week:

Don't be a pig
It is very disturbing to see trash on our streets, which indicates uncivilized behavior. I love cute little pigs who oink, but not humans who litter. Individuals who drop their fast food garbage make my skin crawl. Keep your coffee cup in your car and throw it away at your home. I don't like it mixed in with our beautiful fall colors.

Pick up after your four-legged friends
Please, again, after a great summer of our friends on four legs enjoying the bike trail, please carry a bag to pick up. Please.

It's time to wake up
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, I have just learned my insurance premium for the highest deductible family plan will be increased over $300 a month. I am not sure whom this is affordable for! Thank you to everybody asleep at the wheel last November. Maybe now that your paycheck is reduced, you will wake up.

The right to privacy
I wonder how many people understand what's underlying this government Obamacare thing. I don't think it's as much about providing health care for the people as much as it's about establishing a database of every human being here in the United States, except for those who aren't going to comply with the law no matter what, such as illegal immigrants. Think about it. When you go online to apply for Obamacare, you go on and the IRS gets to administrate it. You have to fill out all of your forms before they determine what coverage you're eligible for. Your income and everything about your family is now in the hands of the government. You have no privacy anymore. I am a person in the United States, and I can tell you I am not applying for Obamacare. I don't care what they do. I don't care what they want to do. I'm going to organize protests around this country for violations of right to privacy. The government is using Obamacare to violate every citizen's right to privacy, and we're creating world problems with it.

Shame on you, Mr. President
I thought the president was attempting to improve the job market in the U.S. Why, then, did we hire a Canadian company, with a horrible track record, and pay them millions of dollars to produce a malfunctioning health care website? Could we not have hired a U.S. high-tech company? Shame on you, Mr. President, for outsourcing this phenomenal job opportunity.

What's playing at the movies?
I was in the mood to possibly attend a movie this weekend, so I turned to my Chronicle to see what was playing in Batavia. There's no schedule, no listing. How come?

The price is too high
What official in the Tri-Cities area agreed to this high-paying electric with the Prairie State power plant? So we're going to have to pay higher electric bills? Who voted for this? The people didn't. Let the person who voted for this pay the difference.

Let them play
My sincere congratulations to Batavia High School football for their recent 62-14 victory over Elgin. Congratulations also go to Elgin for their valiant efforts. That lopsided victory brought back bad memories of my son being on the football team at Batavia years ago and never getting to play. He was a good athlete, but perhaps not quite good enough or big enough. He played with a great attitude and heart, but apparently that wasn’t important to the coaching staff, which elected never to cut a player. Rather, they kept everyone and let them ride the bench all season, no matter the score. There was no B-team or JV schedule either. What a shame. I sincerely hope that the Batavia coaching staff has more class now and allows most, if not every, player the opportunity to see some game time, especially in mismatched games.

So much for promises
The president didn't know about Fast and Furious, foreign spying, the Affordable Care Act website. Either he is totally ignorant and not competent enough to be the leader of our nation. So much for his promise of transparency.

Ask the children
Up and down the Fox River, from Aurora to Elgin and beyond, cities are working hard and spending public funds to beautify their river fronts and turn them into park-like settings for the enjoyment of their residents. But not in Geneva. Public officials are only looking to convert available vacant land into restaurants and enterprise zones for the benefit of a few well-connected developers. Geneva's riverfront TIF zone was largely a failure in generating promised taxes. Now these politicians, who weren't around then, want to take us down the same road without considering what our neighboring cities along the Fox are doing for the benefit of all their residents and future generations. Island Park is a good place to start, but it's not the end of riverfront parks in Geneva. Why not ask our kids what they would prefer? Would they want another park on the river, or another high-rise complex or restaurant?

Oktoberfest fun
I am glad someone found Schnitzel Platz Oktoberfest. The two of us enjoyed sauerbraten there Oct. 25. Oct. 26 was the last day. It was a happy time for another group of diners in the restaurant. It was very good.
