More than 600 runners, walkers and adaptive athletes from around the area descended upon the western edge of Geneva recently to take part in the inaugural “Run, Walk, and Roll for Marklund 5K/1 Mile” event. The larger-than-expected number of participants helped the nonprofit organization net $30,000.
Jessica Smart, Marklund's Director of Adult Services, runs while pushing Marklund client Shelly B. at Marklund's "Run, Walk & Roll" 5k/1 mile event. The event, open to runners, walkers and adaptive athletes, drew 600 participants and netted $30,000.
University of Illinois Extension of Kane County celebrated its Master Gardeners with an awards and appreciation night Oct. 28 in St. Charles. The volunteer group has completed 3,100 hours of service for 2013.
