Chairman: Aurora Area Convention Bureau moving ahead

Published: Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

The chairman of the board of directors for the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau said the bureau is moving forward after separating with its executive director.

“It is business as usual,” North Aurora Village President Dale Berman, chairman of the bureau’s board of directors, said Thursday.

Chris Hamilton, who had been the bureau’s executive director since August 2011, is no longer with the bureau as of Nov. 6. The bureau serves 10 communities, including Aurora, North Aurora, Batavia and Sugar Grove.

Berman said he could not comment on why Hamilton is no longer the bureau’s executive director.

“I wouldn’t say there was any great animosity,” Berman said. “It was something that happened. In the business world, these things happen every day. I think Chris did a good job.”

An email sent to board members Friday stated Hamilton was no longer with the bureau, and a search committee would be named and a firm selected to seek a new executive director.

“I would like to find a new executive director within 60 days, if possible,” Berman said.

Berman said he also would like to bring in a consultant to review the bureau’s operations and organization.

“Is there a better way to do things?” Berman asked. “There could very well be.”
