BATAVIA – A fire early Friday caused $25,000 in damage to a Batavia home, but there were no injuries, according to a news release from the Batavia Fire Department.

Firefighters went at 12:38 a.m. to the 700 block of Lathem Street, responding to a report of a fire in the basement from a wood-burning stove. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the front of the one-story, single-family home. The release stated that the fire was under control by 12:55 a.m.

Firefighters said someone in the home was awake at the time of the fire, smelled smoke and woke the family members.

All were able to leave without injury. Firefighters said $20,000 of the damage was to the structure of the home, and damage to contents of the home was $5,000.

Firefighters from Elburn, Fermilab, Geneva and North Aurora assisted the Batavia Fire Department.
