To the Editor:
Since the U.S. Congress has bowed to the wishes of the NRA and now anyone who wishes to own a gun can own a gun, perhaps it is time to educate and prepare our citizenry in the event of a shooting at the local mall, school, local bar, airport or at their place of employment.
Perhaps the local park districts can begin to offer classes. I heard a report on CNN on just this topic; it mentioned that it is not good enough to just duck when you hear shots; it was suggested that, in the case of a mall, find a store that is closing their front pull-down gate and duck under it before it closes.
Maybe local police stations can offer classes, too, so that we can all be ready for, what seems to be, the next inevitable violent gun act.
This seems to be the only viable alternative to gun control.
