Letter: Helping seniors

To the Editor:

Recently, we celebrated our first ever Harvest Festival that brought together an incredible array of food, drink and fun that raised funds to help support the programs and services we provide for seniors.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Katje Nelson of BNC Enterprises for her energy, enthusiasm and hard work in pulling this event together. She was the driving force and did an outstanding job.

Budweiser and Silver Creek Winery sponsored the event, while the phenomenal area band Johnny & The Boomers volunteered with services and kept the dance floor filled all evening.

Local businesses donated a great variety of their signature dishes so that guests could enjoy a great tasting event. We thank Bull Moose Bar & Grille, Calamity Jane’s Restaurant, Cobblestone Bistro, Countyline Pub & Grill, De-Railed Pub & Grill, Open Range Southwest Grill, Premier Catering/VAC, Rosati’s Pizza & Pub and Sweet Magnolia’s for their generosity.

Please make sure to patronize these area businesses and to thank them for their support.

Fox Valley Older Adult Services was established in 1972. We operate adult day care centers in Aurora, Sandwich and DeKalb; provide in-home service in DeKalb, Kendall, LaSalle and Bureau counties; and provide hot lunches and social and informational programs for seniors in Kane, DeKalb, LaSalle and Kendall counties. One of our primary goals is to help seniors remain in their own home. Since there is no public transportation in the Sandwich area, we also provide transportation in partnership with VAC for seniors and the general public to doctors, hospitals for dialysis, shopping and other necessities.

The mission of Fox Valley Older Adult Services, a nonprofit senior services agency, is to provide programs and services; improve and enrich vital, independent living; enhance dignity and self-respect; and encourage participation in community life.

To find out more about the agency and how you can participate in programs and help us in our vital mission, please visit our website at www.fvoas.org or call us at 815-786-9404.
