BATAVIA – The Kaneland boys basketball team rallied to beat Batavia, 81-74, in overtime on Wednesday at the Windmill City Classic.

The Knights trailed by 10 points to start the fourth quarter before gaining traction late, and tied the game on a Drew David 3-pointer with about 12 seconds left in regulation. The game was tied at 70 going into OT, but the Knights took control in the extra session.

John Pruett scored 21 points and Ty Carlson added 13 points for the Knights (1-0).

“Drew (David) just seems to come up with the big shots a lot and that’s what you expect from a four-year starter," Kaneland coach Brian Johnson said. "It was a little worrisome when Pruett got taken out of the game (fouled out in the fourth quarter). He basically kept us in the game.”

Added David: “I came off the screen and I knew there wasn’t much time left so I knew it had to go up. It left my hand and it felt pretty good. I felt it had a chance to go in.”

Batavia, playing without football players including Micah Coffey, got 26 points in a dynamite debut from Coffey's sophomore brother, Canaan.

Forward Chasen Peez added 19 points for the Bulldogs.

In the first game of the night, St. Francis defeated Engelwood, 64-59. The Spartans were led by double-doubles from Kilian Brown (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Adam Hart (17 points, 10 rebounds), while Jason Sullivan had 15 points on five 3-pointers.

Joliet West tournament: Seton Academy topped Aurora Central Catholic, 64-59, despite 17 points from ACC’s Sean Harreld. Brett Czerak (11 points) and Nick Faltz (10) also were in double figures for the Chargers (0-2).

Sycamore tournament: Burlington Central defeated Newark, 58-51, behind 13 points from Jacob Schutta. Brett Rau scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for the Rockets (2-0), and Reed Hunnicutt also scored 10 points for Central.
