Face Time with Carol Swanson

St. Charles resident Carol Swanson, 66, was volunteering at St. Mark’s Abundant Blessings Shop, Dine and Find at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Charles when she answered nine questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? Mandan, N.D. It’s six miles west of Bismarck.

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Mary Tyler Moore

First job? Baby-sitting for 25 cents an hour and as a clerk at JC Penney

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was 6 years old, and I taught kindergarten and first grade for 36 years.

A book you’d recommend? “The Storyteller” by Jodi Picoult

Favorite charity? Lexington Hospice in Lombard

What game show would you be on? “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”

Favorite local restaurant? Francesca’s by the River in St. Charles

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? This is the 11th year I am hosting a gingerbread house-making party with former students who now are graduating from high school at my house.
