ST. CHARLES – A Geneva man accused of driving drunk in downtown St. Charles has pleaded guilty to reckless driving, according to Kane County court records.

Corey R. Murtaugh, 25, pleaded guilty on Nov. 21.

Judge Robert J. Morrow sentenced Murtaugh to 18 months of conditional discharge, meaning Murtaugh was discharged from custody but must follow certain conditions.

Online court records indicate he must attend a victim impact panel on Feb. 3 and pay $2,805 in fines and costs. He has paid $90 so far, records show.

St. Charles police reports indicated that at about 1 a.m. Aug. 30, Murtaugh sideswiped a telephone pole in the 400 block of South Second Street with his Audi. Continuing south out of control, the vehicle also hit a retaining wall and rubbed against it for some distance before veering back to the left, police reported.

Police said the car came to a stop after hitting a light post. The Audi reportedly had severe damage, and its front passenger tire was lying in the middle of the 100 block of Prairie Street.

Murtaugh suffered nonlife-threatening injuries in the crash, police said.
