Face Time with Mark Vogt

North Aurora resident Mark Vogt, 51, was at the Batavia Public Library when he answered 11 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Pets? Two cats ... and a border collie named Oreo Cookie Ice Cream

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Kevin Costner.

First job? Herding turkeys on a turkey ranch in Michigan.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? An astronaut. Instead, I work in information technology, and I am an inventor. I operate a professional UAV engineering practice – unmanned aerial vehicles – with my identical twin brother, Michael Vogt, founder and principal scientist at North American Robotics.

A book you’d recommend? “Battlefield Earth” A Saga of the Year 3000” by L. Ron Hubbard

Favorite charity? Lazarus House in St. Charles

Do you speak another language? French

Do you play an instrument? Guitar

Favorite local restaurant? Thai Village in Batavia

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I am an avid winemaker, with seven medals – three of them gold – in international competitions. I also have a couple of patents connected to hunting, fly fishing and tornado detection and tracking.
