Letter: Accomplishing nothing

Published: Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

I’m not sure how requiring bars to pay an additional $2,300 to the city to stay open until 2 a.m. will curb over-serving.

What Mayor Ray Rogina and the St. Charles City Council is proposing amounts to nothing more than extortion. And as with every other tax/fee/mandate/permit/etc., the cost will simply be passed on to bar patrons.

So, the end result is the government grows at the expense of its citizens while accomplishing nothing.
