Geneva-based Marklund has planned its annual black-tie gala event, the Top Hat Ball, which will have a theme of “An African Adventure,” according to a news release.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 in the seventh-floor grand ballroom of the Chicago Marriott Downtown, at 540 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago.
Tickets cost $350 a person. Reservations are accepted at www.marklund.org/tophatball.
Jeannine Zupo, Marklund’s director of special events, said those who attend are encouraged to “dress in animal print to fully embrace the excitement of the jungle and all we have to offer.”
“Every year, the Top Hat Ball leadership comes up with an exciting theme for our gala event, with the great challenge of making the following year’s event even bigger and better,” Zupo said, according to the release. “Guests should come expectant of a true African Adventure ‘experience’ as they are taken into the safari welcomed by a tour guide into the transformed ballroom and foyer of the grand ballroom.”
Marklund is a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic, residential and educational services to medically fragile children and adults with profound developmental disabilities.
The Top Hat Ball is Marklund’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
There will be drawings for prizes that will take place during the cocktail and dinner hours. Also, the 2014 Friend of the Year Award will be presented. Last year, Marklund netted more than $385,000 from the event, according to the release.
