Our View: Time to speak up, teens!

Published: Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

Teens – sometimes it’s just hard for them to decide what to do with their free time.

But those in the Batavia area have the chance to voice their opinion on what types of activities and programs they would like to see offered in the community, as the Batavia Park District has been seeking feedback on its Batavia Teen Center.

Middle school students can share their ideas during a focus group meeting that will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Peg Bond Center, 151 Island Ave., Batavia High School students can provide feedback from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the same location.

This is a great opportunity for young people to speak up and provide input on what they would like to see offered at the center, which opened in the mid-1990s.

The Batavia Park District is right in soliciting feedback from the very people who will – or are – using the center.

Young people with too much time on their hands often can wind up in trouble. Providing them with programs that they actually want can go a long way in combating negative behavior.

In addition to the meetings, teens can submit feedback on the Batavia Teen Center’s Facebook page, on the Batavia Park District’s Facebook page and through forms available at the park district office, 327 W. Wilson St., Batavia.

We encourage them to do so.
