Saturday's prep roundup: STC East girls basketball wins minus Hilton

ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles East girls basketball team knocked off Elgin on Saturday, 51-37, despite playing without leading scorer Amanda Hilton.

Hilton experienced knee discomfort and played limited minutes in Thursday's loss to Streamwood before sitting out Saturday.

East coach Lori Drumtra said Hilton's outlook is unsure, saying the team will "find out what the story is on Monday."

Drumtra said Katelyn Claussner adapted well to making the start at point guard against the Maroons.

"On Thursday night we kind of had to throw her in there, and just when you're maybe not thinking about it and you have to try and fill in there, we struggled a little bit," Drumtra said. "But tonight I thought she played really, really well and ran the offense well. I even had Kyra (Washington) play the point a little bit as well."

Still, the Saints (9-9, 3-2 UEC River) would love to be at full strength with three conference games looming in the coming week, including matchups against Batavia and St. Charles North.

Batavia 53, Streamwood 32: At Batavia, Liza Fruendt scored 31 points to move within 20 points of the program's all-time scoring record, held by Katie Issel. Bulldogs coach Kevin Jensen also praised the defense from Erin Bayram and Hannah Frazier on the interior. Batavia improves to 12-5, 4-0 UEC River.

Aurora Central Catholic 59, Walther Christian 49: At Melrose Park, Alex Horton scored 16 points and Kalie Soris added 10 points for the Chargers (9-7, 3-2 SCC Blue).

Marmion 62, St. Edward 43: At Aurora, Jake Esp scored 22 points while Mike Sheehan (12) and Jordan Glasgow (10) also chipped in double figures scoring for the Cadets (7-9).

Aurora Christian 64, Lisle 46: At Aurora, RD Lutze scored 17 points and Wes Wolfe added 16 for Aurora Christian, which made 20 of its 23 free throws.

Aurora Central Catholic 74, Northtown Academy 52: At Aurora, Sean Harreld scored 31 points on eight 3-pointers to lift ACC (2-11) to the non-conference win. Sean Anger added 11 points for ACC.

Lincoln-Way East Invite: Geneva won the 12-team invitational with a season-high team score of 146.15. Fremd (146.10) was the team runners-up. Claire Ginsberg took first place in the all-around at 37.65.
