SUGAR GROVE – A nearly head-on crash early Tuesday morning in Sugar Grove sent the drivers of both vehicles to local hospitals, Sugar Grove Police Chief Pat Rollins said.

The crash took place at 6:40 a.m. on Galena Boulevard, near Capitol Drive, west of Route 56, Rollins said. There were no additional passengers in either vehicle, Rollins said. He said Galena Boulevard was closed for four hours between Capitol Drive and Route 56.

Rollins said the crash took place on snow-covered roads. One driver had to be extracted from a vehicle, Rollins said, but he said he did not have details about the condition of those involved. He said the crash involved one male driver and one female driver, but he didn’t have further information, saying there would be a report available late Tuesday night.

There have been several weather-related crashes in the area, Rollins said, adding that there have been cars ending up in ditches or going off the road.

“Drivers need to be aware of the winter weather and the conditions,” Rollins said. “They should expect snow drifts to occur ... and give themselves a little extra time to get to their destination safely.”
