GENEVA – The city of Geneva will be accepting applications for a vacant 3rd Ward seat, after Alderman Dawn Vogelsberg resigned this week, officials said in a news release.
Vogelsberg announced her resignation Tuesday night. She served as an alderman for 10 years. Mayor Kevin Burns has 60 days to submit an appointee for consideration by the Geneva City Council, according to the release.
Those interested should submit a letter of interest and a resume, postmarked no later than Feb. 3, to Mayor Kevin Burns, Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134. The envelope should include the reference “3rd Ward Alderman” on the front, according to the news release.
To be considered, candidates must be a legal U.S. citizen, must have lived in Geneva’s 3rd Ward for at least one year, be a registered voter, have no felony convictions and be current on taxes and payments to Geneva.
Burns will review the applications and plans to bring his nomination choice to the council by the end of February, the release stated. The alderman will serve on the council through April 2015 and have the option to run in the consolidated election for a two-year term that will expire in 2017.
The 3rd Ward is located on Geneva’s northeast side, with approximate boundaries including Division Street, Woodward Avenue, East Side Drive, State Street and Kautz Road, the release stated. For information and a ward map, visit www.geneva.il.us.
