BATAVIA – Holly Deitchman, the station manager of Batavia Access Television, was named Wednesday as the next executive director of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce.

"I'm really excited about it," Deitchman said. "I see great things coming to the Batavia Chamber of Commerce in the short term and long term. I look forward to meeting with local businesses to see what we can do make their experience in Batavia even better."

Deitchman said she hopes to bring the collaborative process and the growth she experienced as the manager of BATV to the chamber. She will replace Roger Breisch, who has led the chamber for nearly 10 years.

Chamber board President Jack Zaruba said the organization would miss Breisch's leadership, "but we are pleased to have found someone more than capable of continuing to move our organization forward."

Zaruba said the board interviewed nine applicants, eventually whittling the number to five.

"Then we finished up with the last one, and Holly was the one. It was not hard at all once we interviewed everyone," Zaruba said. "She came in with a plan and knew the organization inside and out. She has a great reputation in the community and the skill set ... we really couldn't have written a resume that would have fit her any better."

Among Deitchman's strengths, he said, was her accounting background, how tech savvy she is, her public speaking ability and familiarity with uploading video for their website and sending out announcements to local media.

Deitchman also has a demographics background for research she did for the housing industry, Zaruba said.

"We wanted to know this – what is our audience, and how do we reach them better," Zaruba said. "We are psyched. We closed up the board meeting today, and it was unanimous. Everybody went 'Yes, this is the one.' "

Before becoming BATV station manager in July 2008, Deitchman spent three years as a market analyst with Metrostudy in Elgin. In this role, she performed feasibility and fiscal impact studies for urban retail and housing projects for financiers, developers and builders.

Deitchman said she has done a lot of the same functions managing a notprofit organization, so the business model for the chamber will be similar.

"And staying with a local focus has always been a strong part of the mission for BATV and the chamber," Deitchman said.

Deitchman will start her new duties on Feb. 10, officials said.
