Letter: ‘A visible and direct impact’

To the Editor:

Even barnyard philosophers need to have their facts straight if they are going to make fun of science.

Recently, a Big Rock resident made fun of global warming by saying how the Arctic icepack grew (Kane County Chronicle; Jan. 11, 2014).

However, the U.S. Navy, a much-respected organization, says otherwise.

According to information in the Wall Street Journal in its Jan. 12 edition: “Military scientists steer clear of saying why the ice is melting. ... But the military views the retreat of the ice as fact. ‘Climate change has had a visible and direct impact on the Arctic region,’ concludes the forthcoming Navy strategy proposal.”

With that being said, I can but assume that the water in big Rock is still bad.
