Firefighter hurt fighting fire in Batavia

BATAVIA – A firefighter was injured after slipping on ice while fighting a fire Friday afternoon at 332 Evergreen Drive in Batavia, according to a news release from the Batavia Fire Department.

According to the release, the firefighter was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

The structure fire at the home caused $16,000 in damage – $15,000 to the structure and $1,000 in contents. Firefighters arrived at 5:36 p.m. after a report of a fire inside a home. Crews found a fire in the crawl space and smoke on the first floor, according to the release.

The fire was extinguished, and floor walls were checked but no further fire was found. The release stated there was minor smoke damage and some structural damage to floor joists, flooring and walls. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
