Gibby's Wine Den in Geneva has announced they will be closing.

GENEVA – After nine years in business, Gibby’s Wine Den will close later this month because its owners have moved out of the area.

Jan and Randy Gibson, who operate Gibby’s Wine Den, moved in December to Tennessee after Randy Gibson accepted a position with an architectural engineering firm there. He has been with the firm since June.

“We’ve been trying to sell the business for six months, but we have not been successful,” said Jan Gibson, who has been commuting between Tennessee and the store during the transition. The couple previously lived in Batavia for 23 years.

The liquor license Gibby’s Wine Den has from the state expires Feb. 28. But she said the store could close sooner if it runs out of wine.

“There’s a good chance we will be done before then,” she said.

Gibby’s Wine Den is having a 20 percent off sale on wines, and a 40 percent off sale on general merchandise. The store also is selling its fixtures and office equipment.

“Everything goes,” Jan Gibson said. “Everything is marked to move.”

Gibby’s Wine Den opened in 2005, and the store hosted many events over the years. Earlier this month, the store hosted a chocolate and wine event with Graham’s Chocolates.

“We worked to create a wine destination place,” Jan Gibson said. “We’ve partnered quite a bit with other businesses because I think that is really good for all businesses to work together.”
