Illinois Sheriff’s Association accepting scholarship applications

Applications are being accepted for scholarships offered through the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez announced this week in a news release.

The association will award more than $53,000 in college scholarships to students throughout the state for the 2014-15 academic year. The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only.

Perez will award one $500 scholarship.

Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents and must be a full-time student during the 2014-15 school year. Scholarships must be used at higher learning institutions in Illinois.

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association is also offering a Peacekeeper Scholarship this year. It is for dependents of active duty or retired law enforcement; dependents of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty; dependents of active duty or retired military or National Guard members; and dependents of military members killed in the line of duty.

Applications are due March 15.
