Saturday's prep roundup: Geneva, St. Charles East cap strong weekends

Published: Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 10:39 p.m. CST

SOUTH ELGIN – Geneva junior forward Nate Navigato scored 23 of his 28 points in the first half Saturday as the Vikings boys basketball team routed South Elgin, 78-45, in an Upstate Eight Conference crossover game.

The Vikings led the Storm at halftime, 42-17. Geneva outrebounded South Elgin for the night, 50-20.

"They came out in a 2-3 zone and even though I didn't think our execution was perfect, they left guys like Navigato wide open," Geneva coach Phil Ralston said. "Nate had an amazing first half."

The Vikings substituted liberally in the second half with the outcome no longer in doubt.

Geneva's second win in as many nights improved the Vikings to 21-5. The game was a makeup from an earlier weather postponement.

St. Charles East 68, Riverside-Brookfield 61: At St. Charles, East won on senior night behind 19 points and six assists from Cole Gentry, 11 points and seven rebounds from AJ Washington and 10 points and five rebounds from Mick Vyzral.

East (15-11) played without standout guard Dom Adduci, who sprained his ankle in Friday's win against Elgin. Gentry left the game late with a hand injury that Saints coach Pat Woods said is unlikely to keep him out of Thursday's regular season finale against a to-be-determined UEC Valley opponent.

St. Francis 49, Lakes 31: At Wheaton, Zach Prociuk had 16 points and seven rebounds and St. Francis (14-8) nabbed the non-conference win.

Wheaton Academy 66, North Lawndale 58: At West Chicago, Josh Ruggles scored 22 points and Gordon Behr had 21 points as the Warriors won the non-conference.
