West Aurora School Board seeks to fill vacancy

West Aurora School District 129 is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the school board after the resignation of board member Angela Smith.

Smith had served on the board for seven years.

Her replacement, who would be appointed by the board, would serve until the April 2015 election.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter and have lived in the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment.

Interested applicants should send their resumes and personal qualifications no later than 3 p.m. March 18 to board secretary Kimberly Salzbrunn, 80 S. River St., Aurora, IL 60506.

Information is available by calling Salzbrunn at 630-301-5033 or emailing ksalzbrunn@sd129.org.

In her Monday resignation letter, Smith cited time constraints as the reason for her resignation.

“These past two years, I have been employed as an assistant superintendent for Plainfield District 202, which took me further from home and threw off the delicate balance between my responsibilities as a parent, employee and volunteer board member,” Smith said in the letter. “Unfortunately, for the past few months, it has been my family – my top priority – which has received less of my attention.”
