Prep Roundup: St. Francis boys volleyball tops Bartlett to open season

WHEATON – The St. Francis boys volleyball team defeated Bartlett, 25-13, 25-16, on Wednesday in the Spartans’ season-opening match.

Greg Churney (nine kills) and Jeff Jendryk (six kills, seven blocks) were the kills leaders in a Spartans offense stirred by senior setter Robert Smith (25 assists).

The Spartans will return to action April 7 in a road match at Geneva.

SOFTBALL

Wheaton Academy 6, Plano 4: At The Dome at Rosemont, Wheaton Academy opened its season with a nonconference win against Plano.

Shortstop Marissa Gagliano, a Radford recruit, went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Senior Michelle Ridderhoff pitched five innings to get the win while St. Charles North transfer Autumn Ratliff worked out of a jam in the sixth inning and notched the save.

Ratliff also had two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors, who aren’t scheduled to return to action until April 7.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. Charles North 7, St. Francis 1: At Wheaton, the North Stars prevailed in their season opener behind three goals from Zach Behrens and two goals each from Judson Huxtable and Dean McBride.
