CAMPTON HILLS – Campton Hills ranks among the top five safest cities in Illinois, according to a SafeWise report.

Of 50 cities with populations of at least 5,000 people, Campton Hills ranked fourth.

The rankings were based on FBI Unified Crime Report data, which focuses on violent crimes and property crimes, in addition to independent analysis by SafeWise, an organization that aims to help make homes and communities safe and provides reviews of safety and security products.

The SafeWise report cited the safety programs offered by the Campton Hills Police Department, such as vacation checks for vacationing families and premise alert, which is designed to help disabled residents in emergencies.

In a written statement, Campton Hills Police Chief Dan Hoffman said Tuesday that the ranking is a testament to the village’s law-abiding, proactive residents and the police department’s community-based policing efforts.

“The officers of the Campton Hills Police Department want to thank all of our residents for their continued efforts to keep our community one of the safest in the state,” he said in the release.

Rounding out the top five were Round Lake Park, Lake Forest, Western Springs and Inverness.

Nearby Sugar Grove was ranked 11th, and Elburn was No. 18.

“It was surprising to see the number of Illinois communities with little or no violent crime,” SafeWise security analyst Rebecca Edwards said in a press release. “In this day and age, it is so reassuring to know that caring, proactive communities can make such an impact when it comes to protecting their homes and communities.”
