MAPLE PARK – Kaneland girls soccer coach Scott Parillo devoted about 75 percent of Wednesday’s practice to corner kicks and free kicks.

On Thursday, the fruits of the Knights’ labor generated a 2-0 win against Sycamore, as Delaney Stryczek and Holly Collingbourne both converted Madi Jurcenko corners within a five-minute span in the second half.

“She’s been magical all year with those corner kicks. That’s like 11 or 12 goals we’ve scored this year on those,” Parillo said. “She puts it in a very difficult spot for the goalie. … She just puts them right where we need them to be every time.”

Kaneland (9-1, 4-0 Northern Illinois Big 12 East) navigated an especially harrowing wind on its usually drafty home pitch. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Chapman earned her seventh shutout.

“It wasn’t a pretty game because of the wind,” Parillo said, “but we were able to knock in some of our chances and Emily Chapman stopped all of their chances.”
