St. Charles listed among top 5 exciting places in Illinois

ST. CHARLES – The city of St. Charles was ranked as one of the most exciting places in Illinois, according to the real estate research site Movoto.

St. Charles ranked fifth out of 100 statewide municipalities, according to the rankings released Monday. Nearby cities Elgin and Aurora came in at 46th and 58th, respectively. West Chicago came in 65th, and Batavia came in 79th.

San Mateo, Calif.-based Movoto looked at Illinois municipalities with populations of at least 10,000 or more. Those sites then were ranked based on nightlife, music venues, restaurants and age of residents.

St. Charles ranked sixth in the state for its high number of nonfast-food restaurants per capita, according to Movoto. It also came in fourth for its number of music venues per capita.

Performance areas in St. Charles include the Arcada Theatre, House Pub, Fox Valley Repertory at Pheasant Run Resort and the Norris Cultural Arts Center.

Movoto’s use of per capita counts rather than actual totals is one of the reasons why Chicago ranked fourth just above St. Charles instead of first.

Evanston finished first.
