Face Time with Karen King

St. Charles resident Karen King, 61, was shopping during Geneva’s Citywide Garage Sale when she answered 11 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.  

Where did you grow up? Park Forest

Pets? A Brittany named Sammy

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Katharine Hepburn

First job? At Roush’s Grocery in Matteson

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A teaching nun or a nursing nun. I did not become a nun, but I did became a nurse. I was a nurse for 42 years, an intensive care nurse for 37 years. I saved so many lives.

A book you’d recommend? Any book by Ann Patchett

Favorite charity? American Cancer Society.

What game show would you be on? “Name that Tune”

Do you play an instrument? Piano. And I can remember the song I played at a recital in sixth grade, “Dear Heart.”

Favorite local restaurant? Aurelio’s Pizza in Geneva

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I can say “Hi, how are you?” in 12 languages: Finnish, Laotian, Yugoslavian, Polish, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, French, Tagalog and English.
