Newcomers and Neighbors club hosts year-end luncheon

Published: Thursday, May 1, 2014 5:47 p.m. CDT

The last Fox Valley Newcomers & Neighbors Club luncheon of the year will include a “white elephant” sale.

The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Road, Elgin.

Menu items will include a salad; entree choices of Chicken Florentine, a Diablo Portabella or Orange Roughy; and dessert. Coffee, tea or soda will be included. There will be a cash bar for alcoholic beverages, as well.

Following the luncheon, attendees will have a chance to purchase raffle tickets and partake in the “white elephant” raffle. Attending members will donate some of their things to be raffled off.

In the past, items such as artwork, jewelry, live plants, collectibles and a variety of eclectic items have been included in the raffle, states a news release.

The event will raise funds for the charity Mutual Ground in Aurora. Mutual Ground Inc. was founded in 1975 and provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families, according to a release.

The cost to attend is $25, which includes tax, gratuity and valet parking. To reserve a seat, call Janet at 630-587-5585 by May 12.

The club meets monthly for a luncheon during the months of September through June.  Luncheons are held at many of the local restaurants in the Fox Valley area, and are open to all current and prospective members and guests with prepaid reservations.

The annual membership fee costs $25. For membership information, call Kristine at 630-549-0068 or visit www.foxvalleynewcomers.com.
