GENEVA – The Kane County Cougars improved to a Midwest League-best 22-9 on the season Monday with an 8-4 win against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in front of 1,873 fans at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Catcher Cael Brockmeyer went 3 for 3 for Kane County, while Cougars cleanup hitter Yasiel Balaguert hit his first home run of the season and was among four Cougars with two hits on the night, with Jacob Hannemann, Danny Lockhart and Shawon Dunston Jr. being the others. Cougars starter Tyler Skulina threw four innings of one-run ball while winning pitcher Nathan Dorris (4-1) and Zack Godley (save) did the rest on the mound.
The Cougars outhit the Timber Rattlers (13-17) on the night, 13-7. That allowed the Cougars to withstand committing four errors compared to none from Wisconsin. The Cougars host Wisconsin again tonight in the middle game of the three-game series. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
