Prep roundup: BC softball braces for test

BURLINGTON – The Burlington Central softball team mixed solid pitching and clutch hitting to defeat Genoa-Kingston, 5-1, on Wednesday and set up a Big Northern Conference East showdown against visiting Marengo today.

Central (13-6, 8-1 BNC East) is looking to avenge an earlier 4-2 loss to the league-leading Indians.

"I hope the girls feel good after the win tonight, because Genoa has a pretty nice team, too," BC coach Wade Maisto said. "I hope we come out fired up [today], so we'll see."

Emily Kisch earned the win in the circle, scattering one run, three hits, eight strikeouts and one walk.

Bekah Harnish and Kelly Wiater both had two hits. Harnish homered and drove in two runs.

St. Charles East 10, Streamwood 0 (5 inn.): At St. Charles, Tess Hupe (three hits), Olivia Cheatham, Jordan Hieber and Mackenzie Lofgren drove in two runs apiece for East (21-5, 11-2 UEC River).

IC Catholic Prep 7, Rosary 0: At Rosary, Lauren Murray doubled for Rosary’s lone hit. The Royals fell to 6-13 and 4-6 in Suburban Christian Conference play.

Wheaton Academy 10, Guerin 0 (5 inn.): At West Chicago, freshman Andi Pivaronas spaced one hit, one walk and six strikeouts in the complete game as Wheaton Academy (11-7, 7-4 SCC Gold) surpassed last season’s win total.

BASEBALL

Batavia 7, Elgin 0: At Elgin, Laren Eustace went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run to boost Batavia (17-3-1, 12-2-1 Upstate Eight Conference River Division). Evan Acosta earned the victory.

Larkin 2, Geneva 1: At Elgin, Ben Chally drove in the lone run for Geneva (14-8, 11-7 UEC River). Bret Reed scattered two runs, six hits, one walk and one strikeout in six innings.

Marmion 9, Aurora Christian 0: At Aurora, Brady Roberts and Alex Troop drove in two runs apiece for host Marmion (12-6, 11-1 SCC).

GIRLS SOCCER

Geneva 9, Larkin 0: At Geneva, Courtney Lardas notched a hat trick for Geneva (11-4-2, 4-1 UEC River). Maggie Bodine had a goal and three assists.

Kaneland 6, HInckley-Big Rock 0: At Hinckley, Brittany Olson scored twice for Kaneland (12-1-1) in the opening 5:11.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. Charles North 8, Bartlett 6: At Bartlett, Eric Koppang tallied a hat trick for North. Zach Behrens, Cameron MacKenzie and Koppang scored in the fourth quarter for North, helping break open a 5-all tie at halftime.

Neuqua Valley 11, St. Charles East 5: At East Side Sports Complex in St. Charles, East suffered a home loss.
