Prep roundup: East's Koenen nets No. 100

ST. CHARLES – St. Charles East senior boys tennis standout Jasper Koenen rolled to his 100th career victory Thursday, winning, 6-0, 6-1 in a home dual against Neuqua Valley.

“It’s a real special win, something he had been looking forward to achieving this season,” Saints coach Rob Livermore said. “He’s been working to get to this point, and we’re real happy for him.”

Koenen, a Michigan State recruit who finished fourth in the state last season, helped East stay close in a 4-3 team loss in the Upstate Eight Conference crossover.

Livermore also praised the play of the No. 1 doubles team of George Spoerl and Alex Winters.

“We had a lot of good, close matches today,” Livermore said.

But only one centurion. Koenen, 17-0 this season, trails Justin Bowman (104 victories) for the most in school history, Livermore said.
