AURORA – The Suburban Christian Conference Blue race isn't going the St. Francis softball team's way but the Spartans still stand by their season body of work.
The Spartans handled Rosary, 5-1, on Wednesday, running their record to 20-4 overall and 13-2 in SCC Blue play.
St. Francis' conference title hopes took a hit with a pair of recent losses to Montini, the lone conference team to defeat the Spartans this spring.
"We've had a good season," St. Francis coach Ralph Remus said. "We lost a lot from last year. I'm probably having a better record than I thought we'd have but … you always want to be a little better so we're still looking for some more here."
Ali Dittrich, Maggie Remus and Carly Pasquale had two hits each for St. Francis while Emma Chapman, the middle of three pitchers the Spartans used against the Royals, got the win.
Geneva 11, Larkin 0 (5 inn.): At Geneva, Rachel Fanella tossed a five inning, one-hitter, Haley Orwig went 3 for 3 and Madison Keith tripled and drove in three runs for Geneva (15-11, 8-8 Upstate Eight Conference River).
St. Charles East 12, Elgin 0 (6 inn.): At Elgin, Kate Peterburs went 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs and Mackenzie Meadows went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for East (25-5, 15-2 UEC River), which got five innings of shutout ball from Haley Beno.
Aurora Central Catholic 13, Wheaton Academy 2 (6 inn.): At West Chicago, freshman left fielder Maddie Reinecke had three hits, scored two runs and added an RBI and Gabi Alfaro went 2 for 2 with two RBIs for ACC.
Marissa Gagliano, Hannah Bolds, Jessica Bosse had six of the seven hits for Wheaton Academy (13-9, 8-6 SCC Gold) against winning Chargers pitcher Paige Miller.
Marmion 16, Walther Christian 0 (5 inn.): At Melrose Park, winning pitcher Danny Bickness and Brady Roberts each went 3 for 3 at the plate as the Cadets (14-7, 13-2) scored 11 runs in the top of the third and rolled to the SCC win.
Waubonsie Valley 2, St. Charles North 1: At Aurora, Lizzie Parrilli scored the lone goal for North (14-4-2) off an Ashlyn Walter assist and Shelby Stitz made 11 saves as the North Stars fell to UEC crossover foe Waubonsie Valley.
Waubonsie Valley 2, St. Charles North 0 (25-20, 25-18): At St. Charles. North (12-15) dropped the UEC crossover despite Jeff Rollins' six kills, nine assists apiece from Rollins and Ben Connor and 15 digs for Trevor Gonzaga.
