Spotlight Youth Theater stages ‘Godspell’

Spotlight Youth Theater will present "Godspell," which will feature about 100 student actors from ages 8 to 18, " from Thursday, May 22, through Sunday, May 25, at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre.

BATAVIA – Spotlight Youth Theater will present “Godspell” from Thursday, May 22, through Sunday, May 25, at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre, 1201 Main St. (entrance on Wilson Street), Batavia.

Performances, which will include music and lyrics by “Wicked” composer Stephen Schwartz, will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday; 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday, May 24; and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Based on the Bible’s gospel according to St. Matthew, the parables of Jesus Christ will come to life in “Godspell,” which will feature popular songs, such as “Day By Day,” “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Light of the World” and “By my Side.”

Students ranging in age from 8 to 18 will perform in the musical.

Tickets cost $9 to $12 in advance and an additional $2 at the door. For tickets, visit www.spotlight.org.
