Batavia High School graduates line up before the school's commencement ceremony at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center in DeKalb Wednesday night.

It’s been many, MANY years since my own high school graduation.

Since I began as a newspaper photographer, I have always loved photographing this annual rite of passage. I love the excitement of the students and the joy that surrounds them. Parents, teachers, friends are all there to show their love and support.

The new graduates are just starting their journey. New adventures, opportunities and experiences await them. My wish is that this year’s Class of 2014 takes advantage of all of the doors that are now open to them. See the world, talk into the night with your friends and significant others over coffee, and take risks. It will all be worth it.
