SUGAR GROVE– Michael Purcell, an administrator in the Oswego School District, will be the new director of educational services for sixth through 12th grades in Kaneland School District 302.
Purcell will replace Erika Schlichter, who is leaving for a job in Huntley School District 158. Purcell currently is the assistant director of secondary education at Oswego School District 308.
Purcell's hiring was announced at Wednesday's Kaneland School Board meeting at Kaneland Harter Middle School. According to a news release from District 302, Purcell will begin in his new role on July 1. He will begin his contract at a salary of $102,500, plus benefits.
At the meeting, Kaneland Superintendent Jeff Schuler said Purcell "very, very clearly emerged from the interview process." According to the release, Purcell was selected from a pool of 29 applicants and was selected because of "his administrative experience, student focus, curriculum and leadership experience and his vision for how the department of educational services can enhance learning for students."
Purcell previously worked as the the director of summer learning for Naperville School District 203, according to the release. He also previously worked as a high school math teacher.
According to the District 308 website, Purcell works with the district's Common Core steering committee leadership and the district's math curriculum team leadership. Among areas of responsibility are online courses, summer school oversight and graduation oversight.
