“The Arrangement” is one of the works that will be on display through Sunday, June 29, at the Rosemary Smillie watercolors exhibit at The Holmstad in Batavia.

BATAVIA – The Holmstad, a faith-based, nonprofit retirement community, will host an artist’s reception for Aurora artist Rosemary Smillie from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, in the Town Center Gallery, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia.

The artist’s reception and refreshments will be free and open to the public. The exhibit will feature 32 of Smillie’s watercolors, and will be available for viewings from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday, June 29.

Smillie, a professional artist who has worked in brass, oil, watercolor and pastel, said in a news release that she prefers the freedom of watercolor and that her work begins with an abstraction of colors and then a development of shapes and spaces until the finished painting materializes.

Smillie studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Chicago. Her work has hung in the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., and in corporate and private collections in the U.S., England and Russia, states the release.

Locally, Smillie’s paintings are in the Kane County Court House, Aurora City Hall, Aurora Public Library and Merchants National Bank, the release states.
