GENEVA – The harsh winter of 2013-14 damaged parking lots and sidewalks at Geneva District 304 schools, officials said, prompting a contract of $481,000, most of which is for paving work at seven schools.
The school board approved the paving contract with Geneva Construction Company of Aurora, the lowest of three bids this week.
Accu-Paving of Broadview bid $562,000, and Schroeder Asphalt of Huntley bid $606,000, records show.
Paving work is to be done at Fabyan, Harrison, Mill Creek, Williamsburg and Western Avenue elementary schools, and at Geneva High School and Geneva Middle School South, officials said.
Work at the schools involves filling cracks, seal coating and resurfacing parking areas, and replacing damaged sections of sidewalk, district spokeswoman Kelley Munch said.
"The project is scheduled to start June 16 and be substnatially completed by Aug. 8," Munch said. "With the exception of two projects, all are result of winter damage."
The two that are not the result of winter damage is an area to be renovated at the high school where an old gas pump was removed and the addition of a fire lane around the back of Western Avenue School.
