Volunteer day brings BMO Harris employees to Marklund
GENEVA – More than 40 BMO Harris employees from locations across the Chicago area volunteered at Marklund’s Geneva location for BMO Volunteer Day on June 4.
Marklund is a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities and offers residential, educational, recreational and therapeutic services.
BMO Harris employee Juan Allende, who works at the bank on the east side of Geneva, contacted Marklund’s volunteer manager, Cathy Nikrandt, about bringing employees to volunteer at Marklund.
The volunteers were split up into two groups, one of which came in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Each group played baseball, bowled, and made arts and crafts with clients and helped haul and spread mulch around the 25-acre campus.
“It was quite the flurry of activity,” Dawn Lassiter-Brueske, Marklund’s director of marketing and communications, wrote in an email.
Additional support came from Eagle Concrete of Batavia, which loaned several wheelbarrows to Marklund for the project.
During BMO Volunteer Day, thousands of BMO employees volunteered at nearly 250 charitable organizations in communities across North America. They signed up for an organization based on their personal interest and location. Those who volunteered at Marklund work at banks and corporate operations centers in Geneva, Batavia, Naperville, Lisle, Lockport and Chicago.
“We are so appreciative to all the men and women who selected Marklund as their charitable organization to support on BMO Harris’ Volunteer Day,” Nikrandt wrote in an email. “I saw tons of smiles, lots of laughter, and they are all looking forward to a return visit!”
