2014 Kane County Chronicle Softball All-Area Team


Haley Beno, St. Charles East, Sr., P

Beno capped decorated Saints career with 20-5 senior season and 1.74 ERA for the 30-win, regional champion Saints. Fired two-hitter in late-season, 1-0 win over St. Charles North as East dethroned North atop UEC River.

Sabrina Rabin, St. Charles North, Sr., P/OF

North coach Tom Poulin said “Nobody’s perfect, but [Rabin] is pretty darn close,” hailing the four-year varsity standout’s play and personality. Northwestern recruit batted .446 with seven doubles and five triples, and stole 33 bases in 36 tries. Also North’s top pitcher, Rabin went 16-7 with 2.07 ERA and thwarted opponents’ bunts and slaps by fielding her position slickly.

Bekah Harnish, Burlington Central, Sr., C

Northern Illinois-bound senior batted .538 with 33 RBIs and 10 doubles, seven home runs and four triples for regional champion Rockets. Only fanned four time in 106 at-bats.

Meg Cohrs, Kaneland, So., IF

Cohrs delivered a breakout season for Knights, leading her team in RBIs (33), doubles (13) and batting average (.443) while playing strong defense at third base.

Marissa Gagliano, Wheaton Academy, Sr., IF

Kane County Chronicle Softball Player of the Year was about as effective of a catalyst as they come, batting .623 with on-base percentage of .723 and stealing 24 bases in 25 attempts. Radford recruit also sizzled at shortstop, committing only three errors in 124 attempts and putting her strong arm to good use.

Abby Howlett, St. Charles North, Jr., IF

Hard-hitting first baseman batted .404 while setting pace for North in doubles (14) and home runs (four). NIU recruit added a pair of triples en route to team-best .692 slugging percentage.

Kate Peterburs, St. Charles East, Sr., IF

Veteran first baseman led East’s potent lineup in RBIs (35) while batting .429 with four home runs. Struck out just eight times in 112 at-bats.

Lanie Callaghan, Kaneland, Sr., OF

Athletic center fielder batted .438 while registering 14 extra base hits (including four home runs) and notching 42 hits, one behind Cohrs for the team lead. Drove in 22 runs.

Sarah Collalti, St. Charles East, Sr., OF

Sliding up to No. 2 in East’s batting order this season, one of the area’s most clutch performers responded with a .470 batting average, team-leading 33 walks and 24 RBIs. Also led Saints with 24 stolen bases and 42 runs scored.

Tess Hupe, St. Charles East, Sr., OF

Speedy leadoff hitter and center fielder slapped and slashed her way to a .504 batting average. Swiped 22 bases and notched seven doubles and team-leading four triples.

Annika Radabaugh, Geneva, Fr., U

Radabaugh burst onto the scene with a monster freshman season, mashing a program single-season record 11 home runs, most coming during torrid second half of the season. Batted .355 and drove in team-leading 31 runs while seeing time at both corner infield positions.
