Rush: Recapping Swedish Days; looking ahead to Geneva Arts Fair

Published: Monday, July 7, 2014 10:29 p.m. CDT • Updated: Monday, July 7, 2014 10:34 p.m. CDT

OTROLIGT! Whether you say it in Swedish or English, the word INCREDIBLE encompasses everything that was last month’s huge Swedish Days festival. Sure, Mother Nature provided some challenges, but the crowds still came.

We hope everyone had as much fun attending as we did at the Geneva Chamber of Commerce planning this community 65th celebration.

A huge thank you to the city of Geneva departments for making sure the downtown always looked its best, for all the pre-work of setting up, hooking up and cleaning up whatever was necessary to run the six-day event. To the Geneva Police Department, Geneva Fire Department and ESDA for keeping everyone safe and not letting the crowds have “too much fun.” The sponsors who were present all week, the more than 140 volunteers who represented Geneva superbly and the Geneva businesses for staying open late for the 200,000-plus visitors.

To anyone who donated monetarily, time or talents – the Geneva Chamber appreciates it!

Back for its 13th year, the prestigious Geneva Arts Fair will showcase the work of over 155 fine artists from around the country July 26 and 27. Designed as an interactive gallery, this year’s juried show will provide visitors with the opportunity to peruse multiple mediums and talk directly with the artists about their stunning displays. As they stroll down Third Street in Geneva, guests can enjoy art “en plein aire” and – best of all – for free.

Once again, the expertise and products of Plandscape Inc. will make over the corners of South Third and Franklin streets into a comforting, breathtaking display of foliage and color. You won’t believe that this beauty is only temporary.

Geneva Arts Fair is pleased to offer a “Patron of the Arts Program.” This program provides a unique opportunity for patrons to support the arts and the artists who exhibit by buying a purchase award. A purchase award is a pledge to purchase an agreed-upon dollar amount of artwork directly from participating artists. More information on this can be found at genevachamber.com/geneva_art_fairs.php.

Geneva merchants and restaurants also will be providing guests with sales and food and wine specials, creating two full days of sensory overload.

The 13th annual Geneva Arts Fair is a must do on your summer calendar. The arts fair is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.  Visit the above website for more information.

Sponsors and monetary donations contribute to the financing of Geneva Chamber festivals. Without this support, we would have a difficult time producing the high quality our award-winning festivals are known for. Patronize our local businesses, and thank them for helping make your festival experiences wonderful and fun.
