BELOIT, Wis. – The finale of the four-game series in Beloit was postponed Monday because of severe thunderstorms in the area. The Cougars won the first three games of the series and were going for the four-game sweep.
A makeup date has not yet been scheduled as the Cougars host the Snappers for a four-game series the second week of July. The Cougars now head home for a short three-game series against the Peoria Chiefs. Also, the Cougars, in conjunction with the Cubs, have announced that pitchers Jose Arias and Gerardo Concepcion have been activated from the disabled list.
Pitcher Tyler Bremer has been promoted to Class-A Advanced Daytona, pitcher Pierce Johnson has been promoted to Double-A Tennessee and catcher Antonio Valerio has been transferred to the Cubs’ Dominican League squad.
Arias (nondrafted free agent, 2010) was named a Midwest League All-Star earlier this season but was unable to participate because of injury. The right-hander is 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA in 16 games. Concepcion (nondrafted free agent, 2012) last pitched for the Cougars on May 20. This season, the left-hander is 1-1 with a 4.81 ERA in 12 games. This past week, both pitchers made a pair of appearances with the Cubs’ rookie level squad in Mesa, Arizona.
