Elburn orders massage parlor to close

ELBURN – Village authorities ordered a massage parlor to close after a compliance check revealed the business did not meet the state's licensing requirements, according to an Elburn police report.

A police officer and Elburn Building Commissioner Tom Brennan visited Asian Spa Massage, 151 E. Route 38, Suite E, on May 28 and reportedly told personnel that the Asian massage therapy diploma displayed on the wall was insufficient.

A license from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations is required, police reported.

Police Chief Steve Smith said Tuesday the business was given notice it cannot open as a massage facility until it obtains proper licensing from the state.

Despite "open" signs in the spa's windows, Brennan said the business is closed. He said he drives by the business every day and has requested the police also check it after business hours to ensure it is compliant with the May 28 order.

Proper licensing would make the business legal, Brennan said.

While the business was once in conflict with the village's zoning code, Brennan said it now meets the requirements because it also offers beauty services.
