Batavia – The 18th annual Fourth of July American Dialogue will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, July 4, at the City Council Chambers, 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia. All are invited to share their hopes and dreams for the community, the nation and the world. The event is free. For information, visit

Batavia – Batavia Covenant Church will join The Holmstad in sponsoring Fourth of July pre-fireworks festivities at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Batavia Covenant Church, 1314 Main St., Batavia. Batavia – The Batavia "Sky Concert" will take place at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 4. Community members are invited to view the display from Engstrom Park, located at at the corner of Main and Millview streets. To learn more about the event, visit

South Elgin – “Red, White and Blue Bargain Day” will take place Friday, July 4, at the Fox River Trolley Museum, 365 S. La Fox St., South Elgin. The event will celebrate America's birthday and the Fox River Trolley Museum's birthday, which was July 4, 1966, the day the museum first offered rides to the public. Family and friends can ride for $2. Normally, the museum charges $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for children ages 3 through 11. For information, or to charter a train, call 847-697-4676.

St. Charles – The Great Western Freedom 4 Run and Walk will take place at 8 a.m. Friday, July 4, at the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W370 W. Dean St., St. Charles. The event will benefit the Lazarus House. Advance registration for runners and walkers takes place at and will close at midnight on Tuesday, July 1.

St. Charles – The annual St. Charles July Fourth Celebration will take place Friday, July 4. The fireworks extravaganza can be viewed at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave., St. Charles, or Ferson Creek Park, on Route 31, east of Wildrose Springs Drive, St. Charles. Sugar Grove – JoJo the Clown will lead the annual Sugar Grove Fourth of July parade. The lineup will take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 4, with the parade stepping off at 1 p.m. from John Shields Elementary School, 85 S. Main St., Sugar Grove. JoJo will be riding in her "Clown Victoria" with Sugar Grove fire and police vehicles and farmers as they travel down Main Street. Those interested in participating are urged to bring their decorated bikes, trikes, wagons and strollers. Or, they simply can walk along with the group. The event is free, but those who participate are invited to bring a nonperishable item for the Between Friends Food Pantry.
