GST. CHARLES –  A nature program, “Night Flights: Hanging out with Fireflies” will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road, St. Charles.

Fireflies or lightning bugs are an important part of the ecosystem and are prominent in forest preserve lands.

The program will cover an overview of a firefly’s life cycle and habit and how it makes its light in an indoor presentation. Afterward, participants will go outdoors to catch and release different members of the insect family Lampyridae, in the order Coleoptera, which are flying beetles.

The program is for adults age 18 and older and costs $15. Advance registration is required, so call 630-444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com to register.
