Sound Off: Put away the fireworks

The following is what our readers sounded off about this week:

Noisy fireworks
The calendar and most people will say that by ... Saturday, July 5, the Fourth of July celebration will be over, but that is not true. For three or four weeks after the Fourth of July, noisy fireworks will be shot off in every neighborhood in the Tri-City area. I would encourage the police department in all three towns to sometimes cruise through the residential areas with their windows down and ticket those who persist in shooting off noisy fireworks.

Runaway dog
On Friday, June 13, at 1300 hours, our dog took off running, and I tried to catch him. Five different people in cars tried to help me by blocking him from the busy roads. One woman gave me a leash, and another woman gave me a ride to catch up with him. Finally, I caught Benji, dog, and the woman drove me and him home. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to you wonderful people.

Which is worse?
I would like to propose that the Chronicle have a survey among the readers as to which is the worst stretch of road in Kane County. State Street through Geneva or Dean Street, west of Randall Road. Thank you.

We are taxed out of our homes
Yes, this is about the football field. Batavia residents know that the school board gets what they want, for their teachers, for their pensions, for anything the school needs. Because all they have to do, the school board approves it, and then guess what happens? The taxpayers pay it. They keep paying and paying until we are taxed out of our homes. Thank you.

Watch your small animals
I want to warn the residents of Batavia – there is a coyote in Batavia on Surrey Road in Batavia. I called last week and told you about it, and they put it in the Chronicle and now I have seen it again last night. There is a coyote or more than one on the east of Batavia on Surrey Road. At 8:30 p.m. last night, it ran through my front lawn into my neighbor's yard. I want to warn the residents on Surrey Road. Watch your small animals, don’t leave them alone unless you are with them. God bless, good bye.

Be nice to your family members
Young kids that graduate from high school or college, they want to make a difference so they are going to these foreign countries. I can't see that. Make the difference in your own town. In the United States of America. Make a difference there. How many people and kids go hungry every night? But we send billions to the foreign countries. If you want to make a difference, start being nice to your neighbors, start being nice to your family members.

They should learn English
I just read Saturday’s paper. And the Sound Off [headline],”Doing nothing to stop it,” I think that it is great. I think more people should feel like that, and I have something to add to that. When they come here, they should learn English. And if they want to speak it in the home, that’s fine ... . But they should speak English outside the home, when they are at the store, wherever. My grandparents came from Italy; they had to learn English and speak English outside the home. What is the difference between these people and all the other foreigners? Germans? Hollands? Everywhere? When you call up some place and they say English 1 and Spanish 2, where is the German, where is the Irish, where is the Italian for that? I don't know what pull they have other than President Obama, because [of] their vote.

Stop speaking non-English in the home
It is not the teacher's job to teach English to students. Non-English speaking people need to form groups and meet at each other’s homes and hire an interpreter to teach them English. In turn, they can teach the pre-school children. Stop speaking non-English in the home until everyone in the home can speak clear, understandable English. Dig into your pockets and pay the interpreter, and stop expecting taxpayers to pay for everything. Older immigrants coming here from other countries fended for themselves and asked for nothing from anyone. That’s the difference.
