Last week, as a widespread, straight-line, wind storm – known as a derecho – was reported to be headed to Kane County, I quickly monitored weather sites and tried to pinpoint the exact time to head out to find some cool storm photos.
I started driving west, straight into the storm. I could see a wall of dark clouds hovering over the Maple Park area and quickly pulled over to try and capture the textures in the clouds while keeping a sense of place with the road and trees at the bottom of my horizon line.
Most people, thanks to all of the warnings throughout the day, had taken cover by the time the storm passed over the area, while I took cover under the hatchback of my car.
