Sound Off: A delightful surprise

Published: Monday, July 14, 2014 8:01 a.m. CDT

The following is what our readers sounded off about this week:

A delightful surprise We'd like to thank the person who treated us to breakfast on Sunday, July 6, around 11 a.m. at Colonial restaurant on Randall Road. It was a delightful surprise. We will definitely pay it forward.

Bad time to spray On Monday, June 30, sometime after 7 p.m., I saw and heard the ... truck spraying for mosquitoes on my street in Geneva. I object to my taxpayer money paying for mosquito abatement that is sprayed during a major rainstorm.

Send them back I thought we were a nation of laws. And if we are a nation of laws and free people then we the people, the citizens, the law-abiding citizens and law-abiding immigrants of the United States, should ban together and this should be a revolution and a rebirth of the United States. We need to send back all these illegal immigrants. No amnesty, no compassion. Nothing. Let the government that allowed them to come across the border without their parents or what have you, take care of them. Send them back there. We don't care.

Respect and responsibility I agree Dean Street needs to be fixed. That road is used a lot, and in its condition, it's very bad on the cars. I also agree the police should stop fireworks after the Fourth. And hooray for Hobby Lobby, the government should have no right to tell people what they should do if it's against their religion. Besides, woman have a right, all they have to do is say "no." If this country had more religion, the young people would know what respect and responsibility is. Thank you.

Too small Can you make the bridge on the puzzle page any smaller?

Life with the Cartwrights Watching old TV westerns makes me wonder how many cowboys passed through Kane County in the late 1800s. Many of the TV shows on METV about the cowboys have story lines that put today's modern TV shows to shame. Today's Hollywood focuses on sex and swear words as the viewer suffers with such non-entertaining and superficial forms of so-called entertainment. In contrast, old westerns cut right to a person's heart and their character. Bonanza especially demonstrates how kindness, honesty, understanding and respect are the qualities for a life filled with contentment and peace of mind. Thank you to METV for making TV enjoyable once again. I wish I could go back in time and have a cup of coffe with Ben Cartwright on the Ponderosa. Cowboys had no earrings, no tattoos and look so manly. As a woman, I would have loved life with the Cartwrights.

New places for Face Time? Will someone at the [Kane County] Chronicle please provide Brenda Schory with a map of the Tri-Cities? When she does her interviews for the Face Time feature on page three, I can't remember the last time she was in a location other than St. Charles or Geneva. Maybe with the aid of the map, she will discover the world does extend beyond these two towns and that she won't fall off the edge of the earth if she ventures beyond these borders. Thank you.
