Geneva woman wins lotto prize after buying ticket in St. Charles

GENEVA – Carol Wells plans to grow more tomatoes, potatoes, peppers – and her bank account – after winning $200,000 playing Lucky Day Lotto. The Geneva resident won the jackpot prize when her Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers – 6, 9, 15, 20, 22 – in the June 19 midday drawing, states a news release from the Illinois Lottery. Wells has lived in Geneva for 25 years and bought the winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket in St. Charles. She was at home when she checked the winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery website, states the release.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Wells said in the release. “I turned my computer off and back on and checked the numbers again.”

An avid gardener, Wells gives away most of her produce.

“I give it to people who could use a little help,” she said. “With this lottery win, I plan to expand my garden and feed even more people.”

She also plans to invest, the release states.

An occasional Lucky Day Lotto player, Wells said she also plays Powerball and Mega Millions. She bought her winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket at 7-Eleven, 1705 W. Main St., St. Charles. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket, states the release.
